The team at Mannheim University Hospital will give you individual advice to help you choose the right surgical procedure for you. In addition to the common procedures presented here, there are several other surgeries that can be used as an initial intervention or as a second procedure in special cases.

The common bariatric surgeries
Gastric sleeve surgery
In the case of the gastric sleeve, about two-thirds of the stomach is removed, causing the patient to feel saturated faster and suppressing the appetite.
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
With the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the size of the stomach is reduced, and the food pulp only passes through part of the small intestine (another part of the small intestine is ‘deactivated’).
Omega loop gastric bypass (mini bypass)
In the case of the omega loop gastric bypass (mini bypass), the size of the stomach is reduced just like with the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. The main difference from the gastric bypass is the lower effort and the fact that it is easier from a technical standpoint, not to mention the size of the pouch.
Single-anastomosis duodeno-ileal (SADI) bypass
SADI surgery starts with gastric sleeve surgery. The sleeve is then detached from the duodenum and connected to a loop of small intestine.
