Exercise is one of the most important building blocks for weight loss. However, people with obesity should not do every kind of physical activity to protect their joints and cardiovascular system. The doctors at Mannheim University Hospital give individual tips concerning this matter. Physiotherapy offers complementary, health-promoting measures such as functional movement, medical equipment training or yoga in respiratory therapy for patients with obesity.

Joint-friendly physical activity suitable for obesity
The heavy weight means the body has to carry much more. The joints in the feet, knees, hips or arms quickly suffer wear and tear, resulting in subsequent pain and restricted movement. That is why doctors advise people with obesity to do activity that is easy on the joints, such as swimming, cycling, Nordic walking, hiking or yoga.
